Friday should look much the same: patchy fog may show up before 11 a.m., then skies turn mostly sunny with a high near 81. Thursday night drops to around 62, while Friday night stays mostly clear and closer to 65.
Holiday Weekend Forecast Turns Wetter
The forecast gets more interesting Saturday, when downtown warms to about 84 and shower chances rise to 10%. By Saturday night, the chance of rain reaches 50% between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., and Sunday carries a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 83.
The latest update is a clearer, wetter version of Wednesday's Hoodline forecast. The National Weather Service says moisture from Hurricane Marie could feed light rain across Southern California from Sunday into Tuesday, although the storm itself is expected to track well away from the coast and the amount of rain remains uncertain.
Beach Plans Come With A Bigger Warning
For beachgoers, the ocean may be the bigger story. A growing southerly swell is expected from Friday through Tuesday, with the strongest rip currents and largest surf likely Sunday and Monday; exposed south-facing beaches could also see erosion or flooding near evening high tides.
Anyone heading to the coast should choose a beach with lifeguards, stay off rocks and jetties, and avoid turning their back on incoming waves. Downtown then stays warm for Labor Day and Tuesday, with highs near 86 and mostly sunny skies, but a slight chance of showers lingers.
