A witness reported hearing about a dozen gunshots ring out in Northeast Portland late Tuesday night, sending officers rushing to the area near NE Airport Way and NE Glenn Widing Drive. Portland police were investigating the reported shooting after responding to the scene around 9:15 p.m.
According to KPTV, officers responded to the intersection Tuesday night after reports of gunfire in the area. The station reported that a witness heard the shots fired between a 7-Eleven and a Home Depot located nearby, though it remains unclear whether the gunfire has been officially confirmed by investigators.
Details Remain Scarce as Investigation Continues
As of Wednesday morning, the Portland Police Bureau had not released additional information about the incident, per the same account. It is not yet known whether anyone was injured or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the reported shooting. KPTV listed the story as developing, meaning further details could emerge as the investigation moves forward.
The stretch of NE Airport Way near Glenn Widing Drive has seen scrutiny before. In 2022, KGW reported that Portland police officers responded to a report of someone shot near that same intersection, one of the city's homicide cases tracked that year. And back in 2015, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that the road reopened after police concluded that no shots had actually been fired that time, a reminder that initial reports of gunfire don't always hold up under investigation.
Part of a Tense Stretch for Northeast Portland
Tuesday's reported shooting adds to a string of violent incidents that have rattled Northeast Portland in recent months. In early August, KPTV reported that one person was killed and five others were injured in an early-morning shooting elsewhere in Northeast Portland, with no arrests made at the time. And in January, KGW reported that two Portland police officers were shot and wounded on a Monday night in Northeast Portland, an incident that also triggered a large police response.
No official statement from the Portland Police Bureau had been released as of the story's publication, and key questions — including whether shots were confirmed fired, whether anyone was hurt, and whether a suspect has been identified — remain unanswered. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
