El Cerrito police asked residents near Eureka Avenue, Liberty Street and Lincoln Avenue to review surveillance and doorbell-camera recordings for relevant activity around 1 a.m. Wednesday. CBS News reported that the request followed a burglary at an occupied Eureka Avenue home.
The residents woke when their dog barked. The burglar had entered through the garage, taken electronics and the resident’s car, and was leaving by the time they awoke, according to CBS. No one was hurt. Police said the suspect was seen carrying a red backpack while fleeing.

The camera request gives nearby residents a way to share potentially relevant recordings with police; it does not establish that any particular footage captured the burglary or identify the suspect. Beyond the red backpack, police have not released a suspect description. The make or model of the car and details about the electronics have also not been made public, and the case remains under investigation.
