Flood Watch Begins Tuesday Afternoon
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from noon Tuesday through Wednesday evening for parts of El Paso County and surrounding areas. Excessive rain could cause flooding in arroyos, streams, low-lying spots, poor-drainage areas and low-water crossings, with the greatest concern expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Rain and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday. Tuesday night brings a low near 65.

What Local Records Show About Flood Risk
The City of El Paso Planning & Inspections says FEMA released a revised preliminary flood insurance rate map for El Paso County on Nov. 15, 2023, giving residents another way to review mapped flood risks. City records also show that in 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was planning a stormwater and sediment detention basin upstream of Northeast Channel #2 in northeast El Paso, a past flood-control project separate from this week’s storm.
The 2011 record describes Northeast Channel #2 as having a history of overflowing and flooding surrounding neighborhoods, but the materials cited here do not provide rainfall totals, timing or impacts for a specific past flood to compare directly with this week’s forecast. El Paso’s March 2026 Climate Action Plan identifies flooding as a shared climate challenge and says climate change poses a serious threat.
Wednesday is expected to bring cooler temperatures and increased storm chances.
Higher moisture and possible heavy rain may continue through much of the following week.
