The El Paso Public Library is throwing open its doors for the second year of LibraryCon, a free celebration for comic book fans, gamers, artists and readers built around a Borderland Heroes theme. Before the main event downtown, the library is hosting two warm-up parties this week: an adults-only villains bash Thursday night and a family-friendly outdoor movie screening on Sunday.
According to KVIA, LibraryCon is billed as a free comic con-like experience for fans of books, games, artwork and more, complete with local vendors, workshops and a cosplay contest. The El Paso Public Library's own event page describes the day similarly, inviting comic book fans, gamers, artists and readers to spend the day together at what it calls the library's second annual LibraryCon, according to elpasolibrary.org. The library's page pins the main event to Saturday, September 26, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Yahoo-published report lists Saturday, September 20, but that report was published in 2025 and describes the 2025 Library-Con rather than the 2026 event, per Yahoo.
Two Pre-Events Kick Things Off This Week
Ahead of the main gathering, the library is running two themed pre-events designed to build excitement. The first, Villains Take the Night, is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mexican American Cultural Center Rooftop Terrace and is open only to adults 21 and older, the library's event page states. That evening will include a cosplay contest, crafts and refreshments, with organizers promising much more beyond that lineup.
The second pre-event swaps the rooftop scene for an open-air movie night. A Blue Beetle movie screening is set for Sunday, September 20, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Cleveland Square Park, and it is open to superhero fans of all ages, per the library. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and blankets, with popcorn and cotton candy available while supplies last.
What LibraryCon Itself Will Offer
Whichever Saturday it lands on, LibraryCon is set to take place at the downtown El Paso library, with KVIA reporting the address as the Main Library at 501 N. Oregon St. Yahoo's report places the same address at the center of its coverage, describing an event where visitors can browse a variety of exhibitors, check out an Artist Alley featuring local industry professionals, join meet-and-greets and take part in a cosplay contest.
