El Paso is starting Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near 79 degrees, but the calm morning will give way to another hot afternoon. The high is expected to reach 96 degrees, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 3 and 5 p.m.
Hot Afternoon With A Narrow Storm Window
East-southeast winds should stay light at around 7 mph as temperatures climb through the 90s. Most lowland neighborhoods may remain dry, but storms that develop could bring sudden gusty outflow winds, brief heavy rain and localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service in El Paso.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 77 degrees. Storm chances rise again Wednesday night, when a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after midnight.
Heat Hangs On Before A Cooler Monday
Wednesday should be even hotter, with a high near 97, while Thursday and Friday remain close to 96 and 97 degrees. Rain chances stay limited in the lowlands through Friday, although afternoon storms will continue to favor the mountains and western New Mexico.
Saturday should be sunny and near 96, followed by a mostly sunny Sunday with a high around 95. The pattern shifts slightly Sunday night and Monday, when shower and thunderstorm chances increase and Monday's high slips to about 92 degrees, updating the warmer, stormier outlook outlined in Monday's Hoodline forecast.
