A 47-year-old Escondido man died Monday night after he stepped into the path of an oncoming car in the northbound lanes of Centre City Parkway near Ninth Avenue, according to police. The crash happened around 7:45 p.m., and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
According to Escondido Police
, a bystander rendered medical aid to the victim before first responders arrived. Emergency crews from the Escondido Police Department and the Escondido Fire Department reached the scene shortly after the collision and located the critically injured pedestrian before transporting him to a local hospital, as reported by

Police confirmed that no one inside the vehicle and no bystanders were injured, and drugs, alcohol and speed were not believed to be factors, per the same account.
