Nuestra Familia Bakery is planned for 2523 SE 9th Ave. in Portland, in the storefront where Flour Market Bakery and Cafe operated for six years. Gabriel Azcorra expects limited service to begin in October, with full operations targeted for November. Repairs and buildout are underway.
The name means “our family,” reflecting Azcorra’s plan to build the business around his wife and daughters. He told WhatNow Portland, “I want people to recognize Nuestra Familia for our family.”
Azcorra isn't new to Portland's food scene — he's a part owner of Dos Hermanos, also located in the city. That experience is informing how he's approaching this next venture, even as the new space still needs work: the bakery is currently undergoing repairs and buildout before it can welcome customers.
Azcorra’s Earlier Bakery Experience
According to Dos Hermanos Bakery, Gabriel and Josue Azcorra started that separate bakery in a 1,000-square-foot space on N. Williams in 2018, after nearly a decade managing Delphina’s. The account documents Azcorra’s earlier bakery experience in Portland, but does not describe Nuestra Familia’s operations.
A Handoff From the Previous Owner
The handoff was direct: the previous owner contacted Azcorra after deciding to leave, rather than listing the business publicly or using a broker, according to WhatNow Portland. Flour Market Bakery and Cafe had operated at the address for six years.
Azcorra plans to keep some of the previous owner's recipes on the menu at first, according to the report, while the family develops new recipes. The approach would let regular customers continue to find familiar offerings as the bakery establishes its own identity.
What's Baked Into the Name
A 2025 Spanish-language piece in El Diario NY described Gabriel and Josué Azcorra offering traditional breads like hojaldra alongside Mexican-roasted coffee in Portland. A 2024 rundown in Willamette Week also referenced Dos Hermanos day-olds.
For now, the timeline points toward a staged rollout: limited service in October, with the doors fully open by November. Whether that schedule holds as buildout continues remains to be seen, but the plan Azcorra has laid out is one built less around a menu overhaul and more around who's standing behind the counter — his family, working to earn a name that already carries their own.
