The investigation is centered at the Meriwether Country Inn on Spring Street, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, which had a crew at the scene gathering additional information overnight. A Meriwether County Sheriff's Office deputy confirmed to a photojournalist at the scene that authorities were responding to a fatal shooting, though the station reported that officials had not disclosed how the victim died or why. The property operates commercially as the Meriwether Country Inn, a budget motel at 5675 Spring Street sitting roughly a mile from Roosevelt's Little White House State Historic Site, according to Visit Meriwether County.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also involved in the law enforcement effort, the same report noted, a detail that fits a familiar pattern in this corner of the state.
