Ferguson's Country has opened at 732 Lorimer Street in Greenpoint, across from McCarren Park. At the corner of Lorimer and Bayard streets, the restaurant and bar serves Southern comfort food inspired by owner Scott Ferguson's Alabama upbringing, including pimento cheese, fried chicken biscuits and moonshine flights.
A Change at McCarren Pool
A 2012 account of another change at the park: DNAinfo reported that McCarren Pool's bronze eagles returned to the entrance of its renovated pool after nearly 30 years away. The report said the public was due to return to the pool the following Thursday.
In its report on the opening, BKMAG said Ferguson had owned the space for two years and previously operated a flea market there. His business partner, Gabriella Mann, also owns Baba's. Mann told the outlet that Southern food was scarce in the neighborhood, and that the pair hopes the restaurant will fill that gap.
Southern Food, From Snacks to Supper
BKMAG's menu report lists warm pimento cheese with red pepper jelly for $15 and a fried platter of shrimp, okra, green tomatoes and sweet onions for $18. The $18 hot chicken biscuit pairs fried chicken and pickles with Alabama white sauce.
Among the larger dishes, the report lists a half rack of ribs with cheesy grits and a choice of side for $26. A $44 sides spread includes collards, mac and cheese, field peas, slaw, sweet potato fries, cornbread and grits.
Moonshine and a Jukebox
BKMAG reports that the moonshine flights come with three one-ounce pours and a bowl of corn nuts, for about $20. The spirits are described as whiskey that has not been barrel-aged. Mann told the outlet the flights might become the restaurant's most popular order.
The bar's selection includes liquor from Mississippi, Tennessee, Nova Scotia and Mexico, as well as Brooklyn's Kings County Distillery in the Navy Yard, according to BKMAG. The outlet also reported that the jukebox plays 45-rpm records.
Hours and Plans
BKMAG reports that Ferguson's Country is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The restaurant plans to add weekend brunch later this fall, though no start date was specified.
The opening timeline has appeared differently across reports. WhatsOpening had listed a spring 2026 debut at the former Mousey Brown Salon address and said it had not found confirmation that the restaurant had opened. BKMAG's later account describes it as open and gives its hours. Readers planning a visit may want to confirm availability directly.
