A fire broke out at a two-story commercial building at 72 Warren St. in Roxbury early Monday morning, prompting fire commanders to order firefighters out of the structure. The blaze escalated to five alarms as smoke billowed from the building, which houses several businesses in the heart of Roxbury.

Warren and Dudley Streets Shut Down
Boston Police warned motorists that traffic near Warren and Dudley streets would be impacted while crews worked the scene.
The fire was in Nubian Square. The area is also known for its historic architecture, including nearby Palladio Hall at 56-62 Warren St., an 1880 Italian Renaissance building, per Historic Boston Inc.

Recent Loss Still Fresh for Boston Firefighters
Monday's fire comes just months after the Boston Fire Department suffered a line-of-duty tragedy in May, when 24-year veteran firefighter Bobby Kilduff fell to his death while battling a three-alarm fire in nearby Dorchester. Kilduff had operated out of Rescue Company 2 in Roxbury's Egleston Square, and his death prompted community memorials, including a visit from actor Gary Sinise, as Hoodline previously reported.
WCVB said it would provide more information on the Warren Street fire as it becomes available. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were ordered out of the building.
