Publix has locked in an opening date for its newest Northern Kentucky store: Wednesday, October 7, at 7 a.m. The Publix Super Market at Farmview Commons in Florence will span 58,817 square feet and mark the third Publix location to open in the Tri-State.
The Florence store's opening date was first reported by FOX19, which noted that a 3,200-square-foot Publix Liquors outlet next door to the main store plans to open two hours later, at 9 a.m. that same day. The liquor store format isn't new to the region — Publix first introduced standalone liquor shops outside Florida during its 2024 Kentucky debut, according to Supermarket News.
Publix purchased the 11-acre Farmview Commons site at U.S. 42 and Farmview Drive, on the Florence/Union border, for $4 million from Farmview Commons LLC back in May 2024, according to LINK nky. The grocer has since announced plans for the launch.
A Rapid Regional Rollout
The Florence opening caps a fast-moving expansion into the Cincinnati region. Publix opened its first Northern Kentucky store at the Triple Crown Shopping Center in Walton in March 2025, per Publix. The chain then expanded to Campbell County in June 2026 with a second store in Cold Spring, according to LINK nky's reporting.
Publix isn't stopping at three. FOX19 reports the grocer expects to open two more Northern Kentucky stores, in Independence and Hebron, though neither location has an announced opening date yet. Statewide, Publix's Kentucky pipeline had grown to at least 11 announced locations as of April, including sites in Bowling Green, Richmond, and Versailles, according to Grocery Dive.
Taking On Kroger's Home Turf
Publix's push into Northern Kentucky puts the Florida chain in direct competition with Cincinnati-based Kroger, LINK nky reported. Kroger also planned a $130 million investment, the outlet noted.
Kentucky marked Publix's eighth state of operation when the chain opened its first store in Louisville in January 2024, a 55,701-square-foot location, according to VMSD Magazine. Founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, Publix is the nation's largest employee-owned company and operates in eight states, per Publix's own corporate materials.
The Florence store's arrival also comes amid broader planned development along Florence's Mall Road corridor, including Total Wine and Publix.
