Flower Child is planning to open a restaurant at 4900 W. 119th St. in Leawood, Kansas, with a late 2027 opening anticipated. The address was home to Houlihan's for decades before that restaurant closed its Leawood site in March, leaving an empty building along a busy stretch of 119th Street.
The fast-casual chain has submitted an application to the city for the project, according to the Kansas City Star. If it proceeds, the Leawood restaurant would mark Flower Child's second Kansas City metro location, following the chain's debut in Prairie Village just weeks ago.
What Leawood's Records Show
A March 16, 2026, City of Leawood resolution describes proposed redevelopment at the address: demolition of the existing building and construction of two multi-tenant buildings totaling approximately 16,500 square feet for restaurant, retail and general commercial uses. The resolution identifies the parcel as Lot 3 of Town Center Plaza. It describes the broader site redevelopment, but does not establish whether Flower Child's application has been approved or set an opening date; late 2027 remains the anticipated timing reported for the restaurant.
From Prairie Village to Leawood in Just Months
Flower Child opened its first Kansas restaurant at 3915 W. 83rd St. in Prairie Village in August. The Kansas City Star reported that it was the chain's 45th location nationwide and its first in Kansas. Flower Child's official locations page lists the restaurant at Corinth Quarter. The chain, part of Fox Restaurant Concepts, serves bowls, salads and wraps; its St. Louis location has been open since 2024.
The Star identified the Mother Earth bowl as Flower Child's most popular dish and listed it at $12.45. The menu also includes salads, meat-based bowls, hummus and enchiladas, with listed prices ranging from $8.25 to $17.25.
A Distinct Look for Each Location
Flower Child gives its restaurants distinct identities with yellow and green accents and murals. Regional operations manager Kenny Barsalou told the Star that the food's healthy focus initially attracted customers and that the company refined its operations in the years after COVID-19.
A Building With a Long History
Houlihan's occupied the Leawood site for decades before closing in March, the Star reported. The chain now has one remaining Kansas City-area location, at 11851 W. 95th St. in Overland Park. Plans for a restaurant called American Fire at Houlihan's former Fairway site did not move forward, while French Corner was approved to include two restaurant buildings, according to the Star.
