Visibility could be reduced in river valleys and other sheltered areas early Sunday, so drivers may encounter a brief morning slowdown. North winds will remain light, generally between 1 and 7 mph, while skies turn bright and stay dry through the afternoon.
The valley fog has a familiar physical cause: overnight cooling lets denser air drain into low ground, where it can cool moist air to the point that fog forms. The National Weather Service says valley fog is most common in autumn and spring and tends to be thickest near sunrise. Drivers who encounter fog can leave extra distance, use low-beam headlights and allow extra travel time.
Quiet Nights And A Warmer Week
Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 50, followed by another sunny day Monday and a high near 75. Temperatures climb to about 74 Tuesday and 78 Wednesday as the region shifts into a warmer stretch of early fall weather.
Cincinnati’s typical October temperatures trend downward through the month: National Weather Service climate normals show the normal high falling from 73 degrees on Oct. 1 to 60 degrees on Oct. 31. The same 1991–2020 normals put October’s total precipitation at 3.35 inches. Those long-term averages offer a seasonal yardstick for the forecast’s warm spell and late-week rain chances, rather than a prediction of how much rain this particular system will bring.
Rain Chances Return Thursday
Thursday will be partly sunny with a high near 80 and a 40% chance of showers. Rain chances rise Thursday night and continue Friday, when showers and thunderstorms are possible, before Saturday brings sunny skies and a high near 71.
