Frida's Mexican Restaurant is closing its Collierville location for good, ending a ten-year run in the East Shelby County community. The restaurant will serve customers through 9 p.m. on September 20, giving loyal regulars just days left to grab one more meal before the doors shut at the Carriage Crossing location.
The Gonzalez family business announced the closure in a statement, saying, “After 10 amazing years, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of our Frida's Collierville location,” according to WREG. The restaurant credited the community with a decade of “love, support, memories, and community participation,” and the Gonzalez family and Frida's team thanked customers for their years of loyalty, per the same report. The Collierville restaurant sits at 4650 Merchants Park Circle inside The Shops at Carriage Crossing, the open-air retail center that has anchored dining and shopping in the suburb for years.
Notably, Frida's did not give a specific reason for the Collierville closure, the station's report notes. The restaurant instead invited customers to visit once more before it closes, framing the moment with a quote from Ecclesiastes 3:1, according to WREG's reporting.
A Decade of Local Recognition Before the Exit
The closure comes just months after Frida's Collierville location was named a 2026 Quality Business Award winner, earning a top quality rating score exceeding 95 percent based on customer satisfaction metrics, according to Quality Business Awards. The recognition underscores the restaurant's strong local reputation heading into its final weeks in the suburb.
The Collierville location had also weathered scrutiny in recent years. Authorities officially closed an investigation into alleged drink tampering at the Carriage Crossing location in March 2025, a resolution the company announced on social media, as reported by Action News 5.
Midtown Flagship Remains Open
While the Collierville branch is shutting down, Frida's original Midtown location at 1718 Madison Avenue will remain open, WREG reports. The Gonzalez family opened that flagship roughly 15 years ago, tracing their family's culinary heritage to Gonzalez, Tamaulipas, Mexico, according to Lakeland Currents. The brand is named in honor of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and has built a reputation around its extensive bar program, featuring over 100 premium tequila varieties alongside signature Tex-Mex specialties, per VayaPin.
The Midtown restaurant has had its share of colorful history. In June 2018, it made national news after a 16-person party smoked marijuana indoors and skipped out on a $420 bill, which a customer's relative later paid in full; manager Jesse Gonzalez withdrew police charges once the tab was settled, according to Vice. Back in February 2019, owner Lauriano Gonzalez had also announced plans to expand the brand to a third location at The Lake District development in Lakeland, Tennessee, per Lakeland Currents.
Shifting Ground at Carriage Crossing
Frida's exit comes amid broader change at the shopping center itself. The Shops at Carriage Crossing, a lifestyle center spanning more than 70 acres, sold for $25 million in March 2026 to Chicago-based real estate firms Edwards Realty Company and Core Acquisitions, according to Edwards Realty Company. The center has also seen tenant turnover, announcing the arrival of new retail and dining tenants in April 2026, including local concept Mike's Hot Wings and Such, as commercial real estate managers work to fill suburban leasing gaps, per WhatNow.
Frida's is not the only Collierville restaurant to close its doors this year. Farm-to-table burger concept Belly Acres shuttered its Houston Levee Road location on April 30, citing unsustainably low sales, less than a year after it had opened, according to The Daily Memphian. Hoodline previously reported on Belly Acres closing its Collierville spot, a similar exit tied to weak sales in the same suburb.
For now, Frida's Collierville customers have until 9 p.m. on September 20 to say goodbye. The Gonzalez family's Midtown location on Madison Avenue will continue serving its full menu, including its extensive tequila selection, for those looking to keep the Frida's tradition alive.
