A 26-year-old woman from Carrollton, Georgia, was killed early Sunday after a motorcycle struck her while she was standing in the southbound lane of State Road 429 in Lake County, directly in the rider's path. The crash happened at about 12:47 a.m. near mile marker 42, and the woman was declared deceased at the scene.
According to the Miami Herald, the motorcyclist, a 41-year-old man from Winter Garden, was traveling southbound on SR 429 when his motorcycle struck the woman. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital for treatment.
Investigation Still Underway
Florida Highway Patrol reported the crash details in a news release, and the investigation into exactly what happened remains ongoing, the outlet's report notes. The stretch of highway where the crash occurred is part of a route that has seen significant expansion in recent years. At its northern end, the road becomes the Wekiva Parkway once it crosses U.S. 441 in Apopka, a parkway extension the authority says was completed in 2024.
