A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a gray SUV that fled the scene on West El Norte Parkway in Escondido last Saturday night, according to the Escondido Police Department. The collision happened in the westbound lanes just east of North Centre City Parkway, and the driver has not been found.
Escondido Police announced the fatal crash in a post on X shortly before midnight Sunday, confirming the hit-and-run and directing anyone with information to contact investigators, according to Escondido Police. Additional details on the crash location, roadway closures, and the suspect vehicle were reported by News Flash Insider, which said the collision occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday and that the gray SUV is believed to have sustained front-end damage in the impact. Field dispatch reporting from Mobile News SD indicated emergency calls went out around 10:22 p.m. Saturday for a pedestrian struck in the 200 block of West El Norte Parkway. The victim was rushed to a nearby trauma center with major injuries as Escondido police worked to determine whether a second vehicle remained on scene, per the report. This is not the first fatal pedestrian hit-and-run to strike Escondido this year.
