According to WYFF, viewers reported traffic impacts stretching from White Horse Road at West Blue Ridge Road all the way to Page Drive as deputies worked the scene. The outlet, whose reporting is credited to journalist Deeanna Robertson, said an investigation into the shooting was underway. As of the station's report, a Greenville County deputy had been injured and hospitalized, and the suspect had been shot at least once and hospitalized.
A State Agency Steps In
For this incident, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, or SLED, was requested to investigate the shooting. SLED had already opened 24 such investigations statewide in 2026 as of August 31, compared with 45 total incidents recorded across South Carolina in 2025. According to a Jan. 29, 2025, SLED release, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office had 7 officer involved shootings last year.
SLED was requested to investigate the shooting. The current case remains under investigation, and details about what led to the shooting are still limited.
A High-Risk Corridor and a Strained Department
The shooting occurred near White Horse Road and West Blue Ridge Drive.
The sheriff's office is also handling the investigation. A September 2026 Post and Courier analysis found that Greenville County officers fired shots while responding to domestic violence calls 42 times over a 17-year span, the highest total of any county in South Carolina — a statistic that underscores just how volatile even routine calls can turn for the deputies who answer them.
