The victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening, but as of the latest reports, authorities have not identified a suspect or shared a motive for the shooting.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to the gas station Thursday afternoon, according to WDSU, which reported on the response. Because Metairie is an unincorporated community with no municipal police department of its own, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office handles all criminal investigations there, including this one. A Corridor With a Violent History
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted at this exact Chevron location. In September 2021, 20-year-old Walter Sippio shot and killed 36-year-old Dwayne Nosacka at the same station during a dispute over cutting in line for gas in the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Ida, according to WWL-TV. Sippio later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in January 2024.
The Chevron sits adjacent to Clearview City Center, the 1969-era enclosed mall now in the middle of a multi-phase $100 million open-air redevelopment, with major retail anchors still open for business during construction, Hoodline has previously reported. Veterans Memorial Boulevard carries roughly 70,000 vehicles a day near the Clearview shopping hub, making it one of East Jefferson Parish's most heavily traveled thoroughfares.
Repeated Trouble at the Same Intersection
Thursday's shooting is the latest in a string of violent or disruptive incidents along this stretch of Metairie in recent days. Just over a week earlier, on September 2, a driver rammed a deputy's patrol unit and struck three vehicles in the nearby Clearview City Center Target parking garage before being arrested. That same day, a road-rage shooting near Clearview Parkway and Airline Highway left a female motorist in critical condition.
The pattern of gun violence along Metairie's major transit corridors has kept public attention on commercial-strip safety even as parishwide crime trends have moved in the opposite direction. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto has pointed to long-term data showing reported crime across the parish fell from roughly 31,000 annual offenses in 1991 to about 11,000 in 2019, despite a public perception that suburban crime has been climbing. The broader Metairie/Jefferson area remains part of the discussion about suburban crime and public safety.
Construction Adds to Daily Congestion
The area's traffic troubles aren't limited to crime response. Entergy Louisiana is in the middle of a $270 million grid-hardening project in 2026 that includes replacing more than 500 utility poles along Veterans Boulevard between the Orleans Parish line and Clearview Parkway, work Hoodline has covered as part of a broader grid overhaul.
