Oklahoma City police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery struck southwest Oklahoma City in the early morning hours Thursday. The holdup happened around 3:30 a.m. near Southwest 44th and Blackwelder, and while no one was hurt, the gunman remains unaccounted for.
According to KOCO, officers responded to the area near Southwest 44th and Blackwelder after the robbery was reported. Police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident, but the station's report notes that investigators have not released a description of the suspect.
Officers also have not said what kind of weapon was used during the robbery, per the same KOCO account. That leaves southwest Oklahoma City residents with few details beyond the time and location of the crime as police continue working the case.
Southwest OKC Has Seen Several Armed Robberies in Recent Months
This is not the only armed robbery to hit the southwest side of Oklahoma City this year. A separate incident described by News 9 involved a robbery at a restaurant along Southwest 59th Street near South Blackwelder Avenue, where a suspect wearing a face covering and carrying a firearm fled the scene. That case was reported at a different location and has not been tied to Thursday's robbery.
In another case, Oklahoma City police searched for three suspects following an armed robbery at an ATM near 44th and Penn, according to okcfox.com. That report says the suspects threatened a man with a gun, tried to steal his car, and made off with cash and a cell phone, with police noting the victim was uninjured. A third armed robbery, reported around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at a business in the 3800 block of South Portland Avenue, was described in a brief account from KFOR. None of these separate incidents have been confirmed as connected to the robbery near Southwest 44th and Blackwelder.
For now, the investigation into Thursday's robbery remains open, with police yet to release further information on the suspect or the weapon involved.
