Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski won the US Open men’s doubles championship Saturday in New York, defeating Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4, 7-6 (6). The victory was the American-British partnership’s second Grand Slam title of 2026, following their Australian Open win in January, when they were playing only their second tournament together, according to the Orlando Sentinel’s AP-based report.
The fifth-seeded team won all of its matches without dropping a set. The Lawn Tennis Association said Harrison and Skupski became the third team in the Open Era to win the US Open men’s doubles title that way, after John McEnroe and Peter Fleming in 1983 and Bob and Mike Bryan in 2008 and 2010. In the semifinals, they defeated top seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 7-6 (4), 6-2, according to Flashscore.
The partnership’s breakthrough season
Harrison entered the partnership after a productive 2025 season with Evan King. The pair won ATP Tour titles in Dallas, Acapulco and Brussels, reached the French Open semifinals and qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals, according to the BNP Paribas Open. His partnership with Skupski has since produced two major titles in less than a year.
A career rooted in Louisiana
New York’s wider tennis network
The US Open’s presence in Queens is part of a much larger public tennis network across the city. According to NYC Parks, the department operates 550 tennis courts across New York City. Players can purchase permits for outdoor courts during the city’s tennis season, which runs from April 1 to the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the department says.
Harrison, 32, was born in Shreveport and trained at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. His father, Pat Harrison, coached him there after working as a head professional at two Shreveport tennis clubs, according to WGNO. Those Louisiana ties provide a local connection to Harrison’s first US Open title.
Harrison’s shift toward doubles followed a difficult run in singles. He underwent eight surgeries between 2009 and 2018, including procedures involving his left femur, both hips and his adductor, and reached No. 198 in the ATP singles rankings. WGNO and the Orlando Sentinel’s report said the injury history contributed to his decision to focus more heavily on doubles.
The result for both finalists
For Skupski, the championship resolved several recent US Open near-misses. He had lost the 2025 US Open final and the 2025 French Open final with Joe Salisbury, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The LTA reported that the 36-year-old became the first British player to win three Grand Slam men’s doubles titles at three different major tournaments.
Krawietz and Puetz finished second at Flushing Meadows for the second time in three years. They had also lost the 2024 final, to Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson, according to the Associated Press account published by WUSA9.
