Three people were seriously injured Friday afternoon when a car crashed head-on into a Republic Services garbage truck on State Route 155 near Old Griffin Road in McDonough, according to Georgia State Patrol. The driver and passenger of the car, along with the truck driver, were all hospitalized with serious injuries following the collision.
According to Atlanta News First, the crash unfolded when a Mercury Grand Marquis traveling north on SR 155 failed to maintain its lane and struck the front of the Republic Services trash truck, which was heading south. The Grand Marquis driver and passenger were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, while the truck driver was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital. Authorities had not released further details on the crash as of the report.
Under Georgia Code Section 40-6-48, failing to maintain a single lane is a misdemeanor traffic offense that can carry penalties of up to a $1,000 fine, court fees, and three points on a driver's license, according to a Georgia traffic-law attorney's page. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle's crossing into oncoming traffic remain unclear.

Republic Services, whose truck was struck in the crash, is North America's second-largest environmental services provider. The company has not issued a public statement on the McDonough crash.
