Students and staff stayed put while officers worked to confirm there was no danger inside the buildings, and by the time the order was lifted, authorities said everyone was safe.
The orders followed an incident that happened off campus, according to Patch, which reported that a possible gun threat put the two Healdsburg campuses on alert. Healdsburg police called in deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office to help search both campuses, the outlet reported. KRON4 reported that the shelter-in-place order was later lifted at Healdsburg High School and Fitch Mountain Campus.
No Injuries, No Ongoing Threat, Police Say
Students and staff remained safe throughout the response, and authorities reported no victims or injuries, per the same account from Patch. Healdsburg police said they did not believe any ongoing danger threatened either campus once the search wrapped up. The Healdsburg alert came months after another Sonoma County campus dealt with its own scare. A lockdown at Windsor High School was lifted after a reported bomb threat, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, as reported by ABC7 News. Sheriff's officials issued an alert shortly before 12:15 p.m. about the response, which triggered a lockdown with multiple law enforcement agencies assisting, according to the station's report.
Authorities ultimately determined the threat to Windsor High School was not credible, ABC7 News reported. School officials said all staff and students there were safe, and the Sheriff's Office asked parents not to come to the campus while the investigation was ongoing, per the same account.
Back in Healdsburg, officials have not released further details on what prompted the initial report of an armed person off campus. The Sheriff's Office is expected to share additional information as the investigation continues, according to the statement cited by Patch.
