A 45-year-old bicyclist is dead after a driver struck him from behind on Palm Avenue in San Diego's Egger Highlands neighborhood early Wednesday and sped away without stopping. The man was riding a mountain bike in a bicycle lane when he was hit, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to 10News, the collision happened at about 1:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Palm Avenue. Police said the bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the bike lane when an unknown vehicle, also moving eastbound but in the number three lane, veered right and struck him from behind before continuing on in an unknown direction.
Investigators have not released a description of the vehicle or the driver, according to the outlet's report, leaving few public leads in the search for whoever was behind the wheel. It remains unclear how fast the vehicle was traveling or whether the driver has any connection to the neighborhood.
