Atlanta is starting Tuesday with mostly clear skies, but the calm morning will give way to another hot, stormy afternoon. Highs should reach around 90 degrees before showers and thunderstorms become possible after 2 p.m.
The National Weather Service is warning that the strongest storms could produce damaging wind gusts, along with heavy rain and frequent lightning. There are no watches, warnings or advisories in effect for metro Atlanta, but residents with afternoon or evening plans should keep an eye on the sky and have a sturdy indoor option nearby.
Storms Arrive After The Workday
Tuesday’s rain chance rises through the afternoon, with the best odds from roughly 2 p.m. into the evening. Storms are possible during the afternoon and evening, followed by a lingering chance of showers and thunderstorms through midnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Rainfall could be locally heavy in the strongest cells, while gusty winds may create quick problems for outdoor events, drivers and anyone under trees. The forecast calls for a low near 70 Tuesday night.
A Cooler Pattern Takes Over
Wednesday brings a noticeable change, with a high near 83 and a smaller chance of late-day showers and thunderstorms. A cooler wedge will accompany easterly or northeasterly flow Wednesday as temperatures fall to about 65.
Thursday looks cooler still, with a high near 77 and a near-zero chance of rain. The forecast then brings near-zero rain chances from Friday through Sunday, with afternoon highs around 80 to 81 and overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 50s each day.
Temperatures may gradually warm early the following week, but for Atlanta residents waiting for a break from the late-summer routine, the weekend finally looks like it got the memo.
