Atlanta is waking to clear skies and a sticky 72 degrees Monday morning, but the calm will not last all week. Temperatures are expected to climb to 92, with the heat index near 97, before showers and thunderstorms become more likely later Monday and Tuesday.
Hot Monday, Storm Chances By Evening
Monday will stay sunny for much of the day, with winds light and variable early before increasing out of the east after sunrise to 4–8 knots and remaining east to southeast. The National Weather Service puts the rain chance at 30% Monday night, with showers and thunderstorms possible after 7 p.m.
Some storms could be strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning and periods of heavy rain among the main concerns. No watches or warnings are in effect Monday morning, but outdoor plans should include an easy way to get indoors.
Tuesday Stays Stormy Before A Cooler Turn
Tuesday will have a high near 90 and a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be easterly, while another round of storms could linger into Tuesday night.
More seasonable air arrives Wednesday and Thursday, bringing highs near 83 and 77. Wednesday carries a 50% rain chance.
Dry, Mostly Sunny Weekend Ahead
Friday through Sunday looks mostly sunny and dry. After one more blast of summer heat, Atlanta's forecast finally starts acting like late September.
