Atlanta wakes to clear skies and temperatures in the low 70s Monday before the heat ramps up fast. The afternoon high is expected to reach 95 degrees, with a heat index near 98 and almost no chance of rain.
Sunny Monday Brings Peak Heat
Temperatures should climb through the 80s by late morning and reach the low to mid-90s during the afternoon. Winds will shift solidly to the northeast, and the forecast calls for a 0% chance of precipitation.
The National Weather Service says an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible in far north Georgia, but most of the Atlanta area should remain dry. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the city forecast area.
Small Cooldown Arrives By Midweek
Monday night will be mostly clear with a low near 74, followed by another sunny day Tuesday with a high around 92. Tuesday night should dip to about 70, and Wednesday night could be noticeably more comfortable with a low near 67.
Thursday and Friday will stay sunny and warm, with highs in the upper 80s and near 93 degrees, respectively. The forecast remains mostly dry through Saturday, although shower and thunderstorm chances increase into next weekend.
Heat Still Matters Even Under Blue Skies
With the heat index nearing 100 Monday, people spending extended time outdoors should plan for shade, water and breaks during the hottest part of the afternoon. The lighter rain chances may make for easy outdoor plans, but they will not make the pavement any less toasty.
