A Florida-born chicken tender chain is finally staking its claim in the Kansas City area, with its first local restaurant set to open next month at 4049 Little Blue Parkway in Independence. Huey Magoo's will serve up its fried chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, wraps and salads at the site, and it's only the beginning of a much bigger local push.
The Independence opening comes courtesy of Wichita-based Midwest Restaurant Group, which signed a 10-unit development agreement in May 2026 to bring Huey Magoo's into eight Kansas City-area counties, according to Fast Casual. That deal spans Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth and Douglas counties in Kansas, plus Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte counties in Missouri — meaning the tender chain's arrival in Independence is just the opening bite of a much larger bi-state expansion. As the Kansas City Star reports, Huey Magoo's has not yet announced an exact opening date for the Independence store, and the chain did not immediately respond to the paper's request for comment.
A Harrisonville Location Is Expected
Huey Magoo's second Kansas City-area location is expected in Harrisonville by year-end.
The Harrisonville build would be part of Midwest Restaurant Group's planned expansion across eight counties.
The Chain Behind the Rollout

Huey Magoo's is led by CEO Andy Howard. Founded in Orlando in 2004, the chain has since expanded to more than 90 locations across 12 states.
Menu and Pricing at the New Store
At the Independence location, Huey Magoo's will lean on its self-described “filet mignon of chicken” positioning, sourcing what it says on its website is the best 3% of the chicken it buys. Tender meals come in three, four, five and seven-tender sizes starting at $8.29, bundled with fries, toast and special sauce, with saucing available for an extra charge. Tender bites start at $9.99 for eight pieces or $10.49 for ten, each including fries, toast, sauce and a drink.
Chicken sandwiches start at $5.99 à la carte or $8.99 with fries, while wraps run $7.59 and salads start at $10.99. The Kansas City Star notes that Huey Magoo's already has five locations near Springfield.
Huey Magoo's Expands in Kansas City
