Three right lanes of westbound Interstate 10 at Hawkins in East El Paso were shut down Tuesday morning after a crash left two people with minor injuries, and crews cleared the scene roughly an hour and a half later.
Crash Closed Lanes During Morning Rush
The El Paso Fire Department reported the crash happened at around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to KFOX14. Two people suffered minor injuries in the collision, the station reported, though the fire department has not released further details on their conditions. The three right lanes heading west on I-10 at Hawkins were temporarily closed.
By around 9:20 a.m., the TxDOT traffic map showed the lanes had reopened, per the same report. KTSM 9 News also reported Tuesday morning that lanes near Airway Boulevard had reopened and the left shoulder remained closed.
Separate I-10 Crash Near Airway
A separate crash near Airway Boulevard closed the left three westbound lanes and caused a major backup. The crash happened Tuesday morning, and two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
In that earlier incident, TxDOT could not immediately say when the lanes would reopen, the station noted.
Details on what caused Tuesday's crash near Hawkins have not been released; conflicting accounts differed on whether one or two vehicles were involved. Commuters heading west on I-10 through East El Paso should expect the corridor to remain a trouble spot as crews and drivers navigate the aftermath of the incidents.
