Submissions are open for Volume 4 of El Paso’s Imposter! Art Show. Creator JD Viz is seeking participants and says the next edition could be the project’s largest. How the project works
Artists in the show are matched through a random assignment and create a new work responding to the other participant’s creative approach. The assignment is intended as an interpretation rather than a reproduction, and participants work in their own medium. Previous editions
The first volume had 19 artists, followed by 30 in Volume 2 and more than 50 participants in Volume 3, according to reports from KISS El Paso and the other outlets. Volume 3 took place at Old Sheepdog Brewery in Central El Paso; KISS El Paso reported that the venue also hosted Volume 2.
Volume 2 included a silent auction. According to 93.1 KISS FM, all 30 works sold, with proceeds going directly to the participating artists, according to Viz.
Public arts funding in El Paso
Artists seeking broader public arts support can also look to the City of El Paso’s Cultural Funding Program. According to the city’s Museums and Cultural Affairs Department, the program has distributed approximately $5.8 million to local artists and cultural organizations since 2007.
For Volume 4, the confirmed details are the open call and Viz’s goal of expanding participation. Artists interested in applying will need to contact the organizers for the deadline, eligibility rules, submission process, medium requirements, and exhibition information.
