A man was stabbed near 8 Burnett Street in Jamaica Plain early Sunday morning, and Boston Police released photographs of a suspect they still haven't identified. Officers responded to a radio call for a person stabbed at approximately 6:56 a.m. on Sept. 13, finding a victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound who was transported to a local hospital.
According to Newport Dispatch, officers assigned to District E-13 canvassed the area after the attack but were unable to locate the suspect. Witnesses told police they heard the victim calling for help because he had been stabbed. District E-13 detectives are now investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, and they took the added step of releasing suspect photographs to the public, as reported by Jamaica Plain News. It remains unclear whether the victim and the suspect knew each other, or what sparked the confrontation.
Where the Attack Happened
The Stonybrook Neighborhood Association describes a project along Burnett Street, according to the Stonybrook Neighborhood Association. Burnett Street has also been the site of neighborhood improvements: community groups spent more than a decade pushing for green space along the street, culminating in the June 30, 2021, opening of the Burnett Street Garden and Park alongside new housing built on former industrial land, per the Jamaica Plain Gazette.
District E-13, the station leading the investigation, is located at 3347 Washington Street and serves Jamaica Plain, according to the City of Boston. District detectives are investigating the incident.
A Pattern of Early-Morning Attacks
This isn't the first time District E-13 detectives have asked the public for help tracking down a suspect in a predawn stabbing. In July, detectives sought two suspects in a gray Honda Civic, one of whom was wearing a black shiesty-style mask, after an early-morning stabbing near 500 Canterbury Street in nearby Roslindale left a victim hospitalized, as Hoodline reported at the time. The neighborhood document also mentions Forest Hills T Station.
Jamaica Plain has also seen violence in recent years. While Sunday's attack was non-fatal, detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Citywide Numbers Show a Mixed Picture
The stabbing comes amid a broader conversation about violent crime trends in Boston. The Daily Free Press reported that aggravated assaults were up 5%, according to The Daily Free Press. Overall violent crime remained 2% higher than 2025 but still below five-year averages, the outlet reported.
Whoever is eventually identified in the Burnett Street case could face legal consequences if charged.
