A new salad spot is headed for Swampscott Mall. Just Salad is preparing to open its first Swampscott location at 450 Paradise Road, Suite 3, though the New York-based chain has not announced when doors will open.
The filing was corroborated per business filings by Just Salad 450 Paradise Road LLC, according to whatnow.com, which first reported the planned Swampscott storefront. The outlet notes there is no officially announced timeline for the opening, and it has requested additional details from the Just Salad team, saying it will share updates as they become available.
A Growing Footprint Across the Bay State
Swampscott would mark the latest addition to a Massachusetts lineup that already includes Just Salad locations in Boston's Financial District, Fort Point, Cambridge Crossing, Burlington, Needham Heights, Dedham and Chestnut Hill, per the same whatnow.com report. The chain is also working on a Fenway location in Boston, taking over the former Sweetgreen space at 132 Brookline Avenue, whatnow.com reported separately — though as with Swampscott, an official opening date for that Fenway spot has not yet been announced. The publication had reported last month that Just Salad was planning the Fenway location.
Just Salad's Massachusetts push follows its entry into Dedham, where the chain opened a location at 929 Providence Highway; Patch reported the opening fell on May 28 and called it the chain's seventh Massachusetts location, while a company release distributed via GlobeNewswire dated the Dedham debut to June 22, 2026. That Dedham shop is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the GlobeNewswire release.
From a Colgate Grad's Idea to a Billion-Dollar Brand
Just Salad was founded by Colgate University graduate Nick Kenner in 2006, built around the idea of healthy, affordable, climate-conscious meals, whatnow.com reported. The menu spans salads, soups, warm bowls, wraps, toasts, smoothies and house-made dressings, with options for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, keto and paleo diets, per the same outlet's reporting on the chain's Fenway plans.
The company has also leaned into sustainability branding: its packaging is described as 90% reusable, recyclable or compostable per the company, and its reusable bowl program rewards guests with a free topping for every reuse, according to GlobeNewswire. Just Salad also offers carbon-labeled menu items and climatarian choices, whatnow.com has reported.
Expansion Backed by Fresh Capital
The growth spree comes on the heels of a major cash infusion. Just Salad raised $200 million in new capital in a funding round led by Wellington Management, with participation from D1 Capital Partners, Neuberger Berman and Stripes, according to texasborderbusiness.com. That investment values the chain at approximately $1 billion and is meant to support new restaurant growth, menu development, technology initiatives and customer-experience upgrades, the outlet reported.
Just how big Just Salad has grown depends on which account you read. Citybiz reports the chain now operates more than 120 locations across eight states plus Washington, D.C., while texasborderbusiness.com puts the count at nearly 100 locations across seven states, and Patch describes it as more than 100 locations in seven states. Whatever the precise tally, the chain's ambitions clearly extend well beyond New York, where it is based, as it continues filling in gaps across Massachusetts and neighboring markets — including a franchise-owned Paramus, New Jersey location NJBIZ reported was slated to debut in the second quarter of 2023, joining existing New Jersey shops in Hoboken, Jersey City, Pompton Plains and Totowa.
Back in Swampscott, there's no word yet on hiring, construction progress or a firm opening date. For now, the address at Swampscott Mall stands as the clearest signal that the salad chain isn't done growing on the North Shore.
