Saturday afternoon will turn downright hot. Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s, with mid-90s possible south of Highway 36. South-southwest winds will run 8 to 12 mph, with gusts reaching 21 mph.
Showers and thunderstorms could develop Saturday evening and continue into early Sunday, with some storms potentially bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and hail.
Storms Arrive After Sunset
The National Weather Service's Kansas City/Pleasant Hill office says the strongest storms are most likely along a cold front Saturday night, followed by additional showers overnight. Weekend storm totals are expected to be around one-half inch, though heavier downpours could create localized problems. The National Weather Service also noted that areas north of Interstate 70 received heavy rain earlier in the week and may experience hydrologic issues.
Sunday will be much cooler, with mostly cloudy skies, a high near 80 and lingering showers and thunderstorms. A front will move through Sunday, with the low expected to fall to about 64.
A Much Cooler Start To The Week
Monday brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, generally 25% to 35%, with cooler conditions. The forecast turns drier Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Outdoor plans are most favorable Saturday morning and early afternoon, before storms move in after sunset. Anyone caught in thunder should move indoors, and drivers should avoid water-covered roads if heavy rain develops.
