A 30-year-old Kansas City man was sentenced in federal court after admitting he sold fentanyl and kept guns at his residence, where investigators also found cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a raid last year. Alverez McCullough pleaded guilty to fentanyl conspiracy.
The United States Department of Justice announced McCullough's sentence. McCullough pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, as KCTV reported. Officials said McCullough sold roughly $15,000 worth of fentanyl to confidential sources who were not identified by federal officials, and the court has ordered him to forfeit that $15,000 to the government.
What Agents Found During the Home Search
Investigators executed a search warrant at McCullough's residence on September 15, 2025, according to KCTV's reporting. Inside, they found about 74 grams of fentanyl, approximately two grams of cocaine, marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia, along with multiple firearms.
McCullough told investigators he carried the weapons for protection and sometimes brought them along during drug deals.
Other Federal Enforcement Actions
Federal authorities have also pursued other enforcement actions in Kansas City. In July, a Homeland Security Task Force operation executed multiple search warrants in the city that turned up 1,311 grams of fentanyl and 50 firearms, the Justice Department reported — a case Hoodline covered in Kansas City feds seize dozens of guns.
Locally, the Jackson County Drug Task Force has seized more than 48,000 grams of fentanyl over a five-year span ending in mid-2026, according to Jackson County COMBAT, the county's anti-crime tax program. Yet medical examiner data across the four-county Greater Kansas City area recorded 402 total drug-involved deaths in 2024, a 10% decline from 2023, with Jackson County posting an 8% drop in fentanyl deaths specifically, according to MIMH Addiction Science. Statewide, fentanyl was involved in 93% of the more than 1,400 fatal opioid overdoses recorded across Missouri in 2023, per a report from Jackson County Public Health.
