According to JC Post, Kansas City, Missouri police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle when the three juveniles inside ran from the car rather than pull over. Officers say the teens scattered on foot, prompting a search that drew in additional resources from across the department.
That search included the KCPD Helicopter Unit, which took to the air to look for the stolen vehicle and the fleeing suspects. The unit flies custom-built MD 500E helicopters capable of ground speeds exceeding 200 mph, equipped with tactical cameras that let flight observers feed real-time location updates to officers on the ground, according to Northeast News. That kind of air-to-ground coordination is designed to help officers safely intercept suspects without a prolonged, dangerous ground pursuit.
Helicopter and Ground Squad Converge on Fleeing Teens
The Helicopter Unit assisted the department's Rapid Deployment Squad in making the arrests, per police.
Once officers caught up with the three juveniles, they made the arrests and recovered weapons from the group. Police confirmed that one of the recovered weapons was itself stolen, meaning the teens were allegedly carrying not just a stolen vehicle but a stolen gun as well.

Under Missouri law, the stakes for the juveniles are significant regardless of their age. In Jackson County, juvenile matters involve the Family Court.
