A Kentucky man vacationing in South Florida with his girlfriend is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies say he choked her, threatened to kill her, and forced her into sex during a violent dispute at a Pompano Beach hotel. Christopher Eversole, 38, was arrested Sunday and remained held at the North Broward Bureau jail as of Tuesday night on a $24,500 bond.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Beachcomber Resort & Club at 1200 S. Ocean Blvd. on Sunday after a hotel employee called 911 on behalf of the victim, according to deputies as reported by WPLG Local 10. Eversole and his girlfriend share a home in Kentucky and were vacationing together in South Florida, per deputies. The oceanfront resort sits on 300 feet of private beach and includes 132 guest rooms, according to VISIT FLORIDA.
According to the arrest report, arguments between the couple escalated to physical violence after Eversole decided to drink alcohol despite being a recovering alcoholic, per the victim's account. Eversole allegedly smacked his girlfriend across the face with an open hand, an act the arrest report says caused instant swelling and bruising. The report also states he choked her several times and threatened to kill her.
Victim Says She Complied Out of Fear for Her Life
The arrest report alleges Eversole ordered his girlfriend to get naked and have sex with him despite her refusal, and that she complied because she feared for her life. When she tried to record the abuse on her phone, the report states, Eversole broke the device. Deputies say he also prevented her from leaving the hotel room and provided her only a t-shirt to wear, allowing her to use the restroom only after roughly 30 minutes.
The arrest report further alleges Eversole degraded and insulted his girlfriend in public. She eventually escaped through the hotel's front door and took the elevator down to the lobby, where a hotel employee gave her a blanket to wear and called 911. Deputies say hotel security cameras corroborated her account of the night's events.
Felony and Misdemeanor Charges Filed
Eversole now faces charges of sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation, domestic battery, and domestic assault, per deputies.
