NOLA.com reported that an 80-year-old man was loading groceries into his SUV outside a LaPlace business just after noon on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, when a man grabbed him from behind, choked him, threw him to the ground and then punched him in the face before taking off in the SUV. A bystander came to the victim's aid, and he was later taken to a hospital.
The victim had just shopped at the Walmart on Airline Highway in LaPlace, according to NOLA.com, when the attacker allegedly forced him to the ground and made off with his red 2014 Honda CR-V. Authorities have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Christopher Frasier, who resided in Montz, Louisiana.
Flock Cameras Track the Stolen SUV Across Kenner
The case moved quickly once St. John Parish authorities passed information to Kenner police. Officers used the Flock license-plate recognition camera system and, per fox8live.com, spotted the stolen SUV within about 17 minutes of receiving the alert. Kenner police said in a statement that officers tracked the vehicle's license plate throughout the city and located it at the intersection of Decatur Avenue and Veterans Memorial Boulevard, about a half-block from Kenner Police Department headquarters.
Officers surrounded the vehicle at that intersection and took Frasier into custody. The station's report notes that Frasier was booked on charges of illegal possession of a stolen vehicle, driving without a driver's license and fleeing from the scene. He was held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, with bail reportedly set at $25,150 on the charges tied to the stolen vehicle, and he was held without bond for a parole violation.
Conflicting Accounts of the Victim's Identity
Accounts differ on the victim's gender. NOLA.com described an 80-year-old man, while a separate Fox 8 report described a woman.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office reported on the victim's attack and carjacking and said Frasier will face criminal charges in St. John Parish in addition to the Kenner-based charges. Police said Frasier was on parole for simple burglary and possession of methamphetamine at the time of the alleged carjacking.
A Familiar Name for St. John Parish Investigators
This is not the first time Frasier has faced serious charges in St. John Parish. The St. John Parish Sheriff's Office says he was arrested in October 2022 in connection with the burglary of a mini storage complex in LaPlace, where he was charged with 11 counts of simple burglary, one felony count of criminal damage to property and one misdemeanor theft count. He was held on $30,000 bond in that case, according to the sheriff's office.
Kenner officers used a license-plate camera network to locate the stolen SUV.
