A 31-year-old LaPlace man is accused of kicking open his brother's bedroom door in the middle of the night and stabbing him and his girlfriend as they slept, according to deputies. Anthony Manson Jr. was arrested after deputies found him standing in a hallway of the Devon Drive home holding the kitchen knife used in the attack, and he dropped it once officers ordered him to.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the 100 block of Devon Drive at 1:26 a.m. Thursday after reports of a stabbing. According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, Manson lived in the house with his 21-year-old brother, Aden Manson, and other family members at the time of the attack.
Aden Manson and his 20-year-old girlfriend told investigators they were asleep in bed when Manson kicked open their bedroom door and began stabbing them repeatedly. The two managed to escape outside and alert three other adult relatives who were also inside the house; none of those relatives were hurt, the sheriff's office said.
Victims Rushed to New Orleans Hospital
Deputies arriving on scene found Aden Manson and his girlfriend outside with stab wounds. Both were transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans, where they were expected to recover, per the sheriff's office statement.
Inside the home, deputies located Manson standing in a hallway with the knife still in his hand. He complied with verbal commands to drop the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident, the sheriff's office said. Investigators described the attack as appearing to be unprovoked, though no motive has been confirmed.
Booking and Charges
Manson was booked on two felony counts of aggravated second-degree battery and is being held in the St. John Parish jail, the sheriff's office said. As WWL-TV first reported, the case remains under investigation.
Accounts differ on Aden Manson's job. WWL-TV's report describes him as an off-duty St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputy, while the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office identifies him as a correctional officer employed in St. Charles Parish. No further details on his employment have been independently confirmed.
