A Massachusetts ice cream brand known for racing sundaes to customers' doors before they melt is set to open its first Georgia location in downtown Decatur this November. The Scoop N Scootery plans to open at 335 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Suite D, marking the company's first foothold in the state.
The opening date comes per Isabella Sidoruk, chief marketing officer of The Scoop N Scootery, as reported by WhatNow. The Decatur shop will be the company's ninth location overall, joining four stores in Massachusetts, and single outposts in North Carolina, Washington D.C., Florida, Texas, and New Jersey, according to the same report. The company is also working toward a Manhattan location, per WhatNow.
The brand's roots go back to 2014, when founder Austin Crittenden launched The Scoop N Scootery in Massachusetts, starting the business as an ice cream truck. But the idea predates the truck: as Folio Weekly reports, Crittenden developed the concept while attending Tufts University, buying tubs of ice cream from campus dining halls during late-night hours and delivering sundaes to students on a motorcycle before teaming up with Sean Sally to launch the food truck two years later.
From a Truck to Nationwide Franchise Growth
After two years running the mobile operation, the company opened its first permanent storefront in East Arlington, Massachusetts, in March 2016, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. That brick-and-mortar debut was followed by the brand's expansion beyond Massachusetts, per RestaurantNews.com.
The chain now has locations outside New England. Delivery speed remains central to the brand's identity; in 2019, Grubhub named The Scoop N Scootery the number one dessert delivery shop in America, recognizing a high-volume model that fulfills over 500 orders daily across its corporate stores, according to Franchising Magazine USA.
What's on the Menu, and Where It's Landing
Product quality and speed both factor into the brand's pitch, with a menu built around signature sundaes, multiple ice cream flavors and toppings, and standout offerings like the cannoli mudslide sundae and the mint city sundae, per WhatNow. The Decatur storefront will sit inside 335 West Ponce. That kind of dense, walkable setting mirrors the environment fueling demand elsewhere in the chain's footprint — the brand's Clarendon, Virginia store has operated as late as 2 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with social-media buzz around the location, per ARLnow.

A Bigger Push Beyond New England
The Decatur opening lands amid a broader national sprint. The Scoop N Scootery made its Texas debut in Fort Worth in March, and it also signed a 15-year lease for a 1,325-square-foot storefront in Manhattan's Greenwich Village targeting a fall 2026 opening, Hoodline previously reported in its story on the brand's Bleecker Street lease. The expansion arrives as The Scoop N Scootery seeks a broader presence in the ice cream market.
