Two people are recovering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds after a fistfight outside a Lewisville taco restaurant erupted into gunfire, and the shooter fled before officers could arrive. The shooting happened in the 1200 block of South State Highway 121 Business, sending police scrambling to a scene that started as a routine disturbance call and ended with an active manhunt.
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers were initially responding to a reported fistfight before shots were fired. The department confirmed two victims sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and said the suspect left the scene before officers arrived. Police said there is no known threat to the public but asked residents to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
The specific location of the gunfire has since come into sharper focus. As reported by WFAA, the confrontation and subsequent shooting took place outside Taco Hut at 1235 South State Highway 121 Business inside Lakeland Plaza. The station reported that officers were dispatched to the parking lot for a fistfight before gunfire broke out, an account that lines up with the department's own description of how the incident unfolded.
Shooting Scene Sits Near Major Highway Interchange
The station's report also placed the shooting near the Push Start Play arcade, close to where Highway 121 meets Interstate 35E, per CBS Texas. Lakeland Plaza itself is a 155,597-square-foot retail and commercial center with restaurants, auto parts stores, and fitness businesses, according to a LoopNet listing, and its position at a major arterial intersection means the plaza sees heavy daily traffic.
Lewisville police have not released a description of the suspect who fled before officers arrived, and it remains unclear whether surveillance footage from any of the plaza's businesses captured the fight or shooting. The current medical condition of the two victims beyond their non-life-threatening injuries has also not been detailed publicly. Police said they will share additional information as it becomes available.
A Familiar and Troubled Stretch of Roadway
This is not the first violent incident investigated along this corridor. In February 2025, Lewisville police investigated a fatal shooting in the 1600 block of South State Highway 121 Business, where a 21-year-old driver was found fatally shot inside his vehicle — a case Hoodline covered at the time, and one that led to the arrest of a 44-year-old suspect on a murder warrant, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
The highway has seen other serious police responses as well. In October 2025, officers and SWAT personnel responded to a standoff at the Budget Suites in the 2100 block of the same roadway after an armed suspect opened fire on officers and killed a woman inside a room, as reported by CBS News Texas; the gunman was later charged with murder and aggravated assault against a peace officer. That same month, WFAA reported that Lewisville police investigated a separate shooting in the 400 block of the highway in which a 31-year-old man fatally shot his mother before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a case police characterized as an isolated murder-suicide.

If the suspect in Wednesday's shooting is identified and arrested, Texas law classifies using or discharging a firearm to cause bodily injury as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony under Texas Penal Code Section 22.02, according to Flatiron Legal Advisors. A conviction carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison, fines up to $10,000, and a permanent loss of firearm rights.
