Southern Accents, Lexington High School’s show choir, has been invited to perform at the White House during the Christmas season. The 38 students in grades 9 through 12 are preparing for a trip to Washington, D.C., while school organizers work to raise $60,000 toward the expense.
According to KOKH, Southern Accents auditioned with a video of students performing “Carol of the Bells.” Angela Lind said the choir was selected from more than 1,000 submissions from around the country.
A Big Stage for a Small-Town Program

The Price Tag Behind the Trip
The trip’s estimated cost is about $1,400 per student, covering airfare, transportation, hotels, most meals and planned activities, KOKH / FOX 25 Oklahoma City reported. Organizers are seeking to raise $60,000 overall to help with the expense.
Lexington High School is holding food drives, bake sales and a donation concert, according to KOKH / FOX 25 Oklahoma City. Miley Mathis said the fundraising effort is intended to help students who otherwise could not afford the trip attend.
Oklahoma Arts Grants and Travel Costs
The Oklahoma Arts Council lists Essential Arts Education Grants of up to $5,000 for FY2027. The listing alone does not establish that Southern Accents’ travel costs qualify; eligibility and funding criteria apply. The Council’s separate Classroom Supply Grants offer up to $500 per school site for supplies and materials used in visual and performing arts instruction during the school day. The program description does not establish that those funds can pay for airfare or lodging.
