Once Liberty police received the report on Merkel, state law required immediate action behind the scenes. Under Missouri Revised Statutes § 43.401, any law enforcement agency that receives a missing person complaint must immediately enter the individual's information into both the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System and the FBI's National Crime Information Center, ensuring law enforcement agencies well beyond Clay County are alerted without delay.
