A 21-year-old Macon man was shot on Pio Nono Avenue Sunday afternoon and died at the hospital a short time later, according to the Bibb County Coroner's Office. Jeremiah Quantez McCrary was struck around 2:50 p.m. in the 2300 block of Pio Nono Avenue and was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent at 3:16 p.m., about 26 minutes after deputies were called to the scene.
The victim was identified as Jeremiah Quantez McCrary. Deputies responding to the shooting report rendered aid to McCrary before firefighters and paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital, according to WSB-TV. Authorities have not released information about a suspect or a cause behind the shooting, and the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains ongoing.

A shooting was reported inside a Pio Nono Avenue building, where a 47-year-old man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries during late evening hours, as reported by WGXA.
Macon's Homicide Numbers Tell a Mixed Story
Bibb County recorded 71 homicides in 2022. Macon-Bibb County officials credited the community-based Macon Violence Prevention initiative with a 45% reduction in overall homicides and an 87% drop among teenagers, from 15 to 2, between 2022 and 2024, according to the Macon-Bibb County government.
But the drop in homicides hasn't meant an end to gun violence in the city.

McCrary was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent's Medical Center. If a suspect is eventually identified and charged, the case would proceed under Georgia law.
