A 60-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound at a BP gas station on Windsor Street SW in Mechanicsville, but Atlanta police say the station itself was not where the shooting actually happened. Officers who responded to the call found the man awake and alert, and paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment. Now detectives are trying to figure out where he was really shot, and how he ended up at the pumps.
Atlanta police responded to a call for a person shot at 464 Windsor Street SW, according to the Atlanta Police Department. As Fox 5 Atlanta reports, officers determined that the gas station was not the primary crime scene, meaning the shooting itself happened somewhere else before the victim arrived there. Police have not released the man's name, provided a description of a potential shooter, or identified the exact location where the shooting took place.
A Gas Station With a History
This is not the first time violence has landed at this particular BP. In September 2024, police responded to a stabbing at the same location that left a 31-year-old man wounded in the shoulder, and investigators released surveillance footage of a suspect nicknamed “DK” or “TK” in that case, per WSB-TV. City lawmakers have adopted security rules for gas stations.
In August 2023, the Atlanta City Council passed an ordinance requiring every gas station and attached convenience store in the city to install and maintain around-the-clock, high-definition surveillance cameras aimed at every fuel pump and commercial entrance, according to the Security Industry Association. The ordinance requires business owners to turn over footage of crimes to police immediately. The ordinance was intended to help reduce crime at gas stations.

Mechanicsville is part of Atlanta Police Zone 3.
The gas station shooting also follows a gunpoint robbery on nearby Cooper Street SW that Hoodline reported earlier this month, in which a victim was restrained and robbed; a predawn shooting also occurred in October 2024. Zone 3 officers regularly conduct targeted violent crime interdiction patrols in Mechanicsville, a historic Southwest Atlanta neighborhood established in 1870 and named for the rail mechanics who once worked in nearby railway maintenance yards, according to Wikipedia.

For now, detectives are still working to determine where the shooting actually took place and what led up to it.
