A man has died after firefighters pulled him from a burning mobile home in Weathersfield, Ohio, on Friday morning in an incident initially reported as an explosion. The Trumbull County Coroner's Office confirmed the death following the fire at Brentwood Manor Manufactured Community, though the man's identity had not been released.
Crews were called at 9:17 a.m. Friday to Brentwood Manor Manufactured Community on Evaline Street SE, near the corner of DeForest Road and Evaline Street, after the incident was first reported as an explosion, according to WKBN. Weathersfield Fire Chief Tom Lambert later said officials did not believe an explosion had occurred at all — instead, he said the loud sound came from a window shattering from the heat building up inside the trailer.
Firefighters Reach Him Within Minutes
Firefighters managed to pull the man from the mobile home within about five minutes of arriving on scene. He suffered smoke-related injuries, fire officials confirmed, as reported by WYTV. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and later died there, according to WFMJ.
The fire caused most of its structural damage to the front of the trailer, though smoke damage spread throughout the home, leaving it a total loss. The woman who lived at the residence was not home when the fire broke out, and one cat found inside was rescued and handed off to a family member at the scene.
Cause Still Undetermined
Investigators have not established what sparked the fire. Police have said no criminal activity is suspected in connection with the blaze, and the cause otherwise remained unknown as of Friday. The man's identity has not yet been made public.
