Central Patrol officers responded to the shooting scene at 700 Cottage, where they found the adult male victim already deceased, according to Houston Police. The department said an adult male suspect had fled the location on foot, and as of the update, an investigation was underway. No further details on the victim's identity, the suspect's description, or a possible motive have been released.
The block sits within Houston's Greater Heights and Near Northside area, a residential corridor of single-family and historic homes inside the 77009 ZIP code and within the Interstate 610 Loop, according to Realtor.com. The scene falls under the jurisdiction of HPD's Central Patrol Division, which covers Districts 1 and 2 and operates out of a renovated $40 million, 57,000-square-foot station on Morin Place downtown that opened in July 2025, per Community Impact.

That process typically applies to any violent or sudden death in Harris County, meaning formal identification of the man killed on Cottage Street will likely come from that office rather than from police at the scene.
