A man was shot during a dispute in the 900 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW in northwest Atlanta early Saturday, and instead of waiting for help, he got behind the wheel and drove himself to the hospital. Atlanta police said he arrived awake and alert, though his identity has not been released.
Predawn Gunfire Sends Victim Fleeing For Help
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the shooting happened around 4:32 a.m. Saturday, and Atlanta police say it stemmed from a dispute that turned violent. The man was found awake and alert once he reached the hospital, but officials have not disclosed his condition beyond that detail.
Investigators have not identified any possible suspects, nor have they said what specifically led to the confrontation, per the same report. The Atlanta Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting, and no further details about the circumstances have been made public.
Same Block Saw A Deadly Shooting Just Months Earlier
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted on that stretch of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW. On March 24, a separate shooting outside the Vine City Food Mart in the same 900 block, just east of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW, left a 35-year-old man dead just before 9 p.m., Fox 5 Atlanta reported at the time.
In that earlier case, investigators released photos of two persons of interest and offered a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest. Atlanta police ultimately identified 36-year-old Nicholas Meadows and 35-year-old Ezzard Glenn as suspects, arresting Meadows on March 27 and Glenn on April 1, according to Hoodline’s earlier reporting. Both men were booked on murder charges along with counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and multiple firearm-related offenses.
That March case remains entirely separate from Saturday's shooting, and nothing in the current investigation ties the two incidents together. For now, the man injured in the latest shooting remains unidentified, and Atlanta police have not said whether they expect an arrest.
