A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hanover and Belmont streets in Manchester sent three people to area hospitals Monday evening, after one of the cars rolled over and came to rest against a home on Hanover Street. The crash happened just before 6 p.m., according to police, and left a driver ejected from the overturned vehicle while another passenger had to be freed by first responders.
The collision occurred at 5:59 p.m. Monday and was managed on scene by Incident Commander Battalion Chief Robert Plantier of the Manchester Fire Department, according to Manchester Ink Link. The overturned vehicle carried four occupants total. Two of them managed to exit on their own, but a third had to be extricated by rescue crews, per NBC10 Boston, which reported that both drivers and one passenger were taken to area hospitals in serious condition, according to police. The driver of the overturned car was ejected in the crash, police told the outlet.
The car that flipped ended up against 481 Hanover Street, a 5,272-square-foot octagonal multi-family home built in 1900 that sits at the southwest corner of Hanover and Belmont streets. Property records reviewed by Zillow show the historic residence last sold in January 2025 for $595,000, underscoring the potential structural stakes for a home that has stood at that corner for well over a century.
A Corner With A Troubled Recent History
This is not the first serious wreck at Hanover and Belmont. Just days earlier, on September 2, a 24-year-old Manchester man was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison for a June 2025 drunk-driving crash that killed an 11-month-old infant and occurred near Lake Avenue and Belmont Street. That driver had reached speeds up to 70 mph and blew through multiple stop signs before the crash, as Hoodline reported in its coverage of the sentencing.
The corridor has seen other recent trouble too. On August 25, a 63-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries four blocks west at Hanover and Lincoln streets after colliding with a 2017 Buick Encore, whose driver was not hurt. Then on August 31, a young bicyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a 2007 Dodge Caliber at Lake Avenue and Belmont Street, just one block south of Monday's crash site, with police responding around 6:38 p.m., according to the Stephen Law Group Injury Lawyers.
