Maranello opened this summer at 2101 Kettner Boulevard in San Diego’s Little Italy. The restaurant takes its name from the Italian town associated with Ferrari, while its menu draws on Northern Italian cooking and regional racing references, according to FOX 5 San Diego. Andrea Povino, the restaurant’s general manager, said the concept emphasizes the town’s tradition of hospitality and gathering around a table.
Tableside service and a focused menu
Tableside presentation is central to the restaurant. FOX 5 reports that the whole catch of the day is portioned in front of diners and that Tortellini Prosciutto di Parma is finished in a wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano. Other reported menu options include gnocco fritto with speck, ravioli caramella filled with mortadella, pistachio and Parmigiano, and Lasagna Emiliana with Bolognese ragù and warm cheese fondue, according to the same report.
Drinks and hours
The bar serves Italian-focused cocktails, including the Sarti Spritz, which uses Sarti Rosa, an aperitivo recently introduced in the United States, according to There San Diego. FOX 5 lists additional drinks such as the Pit Stop and Truffle Old Fashioned, while the wine program includes Lambrusco, Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino. Dinner runs from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; the restaurant accepts reservations and walk-ins, FOX 5 reports.
The address’s recent restaurant history
Maranello is in the former Zinqué space. Patch reported that the French bistro opened there in September 2019 as part of the AV8 development on Kettner Boulevard. The new restaurant also joins a Little Italy dining scene that includes Vincenzo Cucina & Lounge, which Hoodline described in 2024 as San Diego’s first cheese-wheel pasta bar: Hoodline.
