Memphis is getting a rare-feeling late-September breather Sunday, with mostly sunny skies, a high near 81 degrees and almost no chance of rain. Northeast winds will stay light at 5 to 10 mph, making this a comfortable day for errands, patios and outdoor plans. The calm stretch will last into Monday before temperatures begin climbing again.
Sunny And Cool Through Monday
Sunday night will turn partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 63 degrees. Monday should be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 90s, while Monday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s, according to the National Weather Service Memphis office.
Tuesday and Wednesday bring a warm-up, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Winds will gradually turn southerly as warmer, more humid air returns, but heat-index concerns are not expected through the middle of the week.
Dry Weather Keeps Fire Danger Elevated
The sunny forecast comes with a caution for dry conditions. Afternoon humidity is expected to fall near 30% across much of the region over the next few days, and the Memphis weather office says some areas could briefly drop below 20%.
That combination of dry air and parched vegetation means fire danger will remain elevated, even though winds should generally stay below 10 mph. There are no watches, warnings or advisories listed for the Memphis area Sunday.
Rain Chances Possible Thursday
Rain chances could return Thursday at the earliest, though the forecast remains uncertain.
The timing is a meaningful update from Hoodline's Friday forecast, which had rain appearing earlier in the week. For now, Memphis gets several dry days to enjoy before the atmosphere finally remembers it is supposed to rain sometimes.
